With an extra day, trekkers can enjoy better acclimatization, more wildlife spotting, and leisurely hiking, making this trek ideal for first-time trekkers, nature lovers, and photography enthusiasts. You will hike through rainforest, bamboo zones, alpine desert, and moorland, culminating in a breathtaking summit with panoramic views including Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding plains.

Day 1: Arusha to Miriakamba Hut

  • Altitude: 1,450m → 2,600m

  • Habitat: Rainforest

  • Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

The trek begins with a scenic drive from Arusha to Momella Gate, where you register with the park authorities. From here, you hike through dense rainforest, spotting monkeys, elephants, and colorful bird species along the trail.

Arrive at Miriakamba Hut, your first overnight stop. This initial climb warms your body and prepares you for higher altitudes.

Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

  • Altitude: 2,600m → 3,550m

  • Habitat: Bamboo Zone → Alpine Desert

  • Hiking Time: 5–6 hours

Today’s trek takes you through dense bamboo forests, open moorlands, and volcanic ridges. The terrain gradually becomes steeper as you ascend toward Saddle Hut, located at the base of the summit cone.

This day allows for additional acclimatization, optional short walks, and plenty of time to enjoy the mountain scenery.

Day 3: Summit Day – Saddle Hut to Mount Meru Summit to Miriakamba Hut

  • Altitude: 3,550m → 4,562m → 2,600m

  • Habitat: Alpine / Crater Rim → Rainforest

  • Hiking Time: 8–10 hours

Summit day begins around midnight, climbing slowly toward the Mount Meru summit (4,562m). From the top, enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of Kilimanjaro, the crater, and surrounding plains.

After spending time at the summit, descend carefully through the Saddle and back to Miriakamba Hut for an overnight stay, giving your body time to rest and recover.

Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate – Return to Arusha

  • Altitude: 2,600m → 1,450m

  • Habitat: Rainforest

  • Hiking Time: 3–4 hours

After breakfast, descend through lush rainforest, enjoying wildlife sightings and serene landscapes. Arrive at Momella Gate, where you receive your Mount Meru summit certificate.

Transfer back to Arusha for a well-earned rest and optional post-trek relaxation or safari adventure.
