Day 1: Machame Gate – Machame Camp
Elevation: 1,800m → 3,000m
Trekking Time: 5–7 hours
Distance: ~11 km
Your Machame Route 7 Days adventure begins with a morning drive from Moshi or Arusha to Machame Gate. After registration and briefing, start trekking through lush rainforest, home to colobus monkeys and diverse birdlife.
The trail can be muddy but is extremely scenic, making for a rewarding first day.

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp
Elevation: 3,000m → 3,840m
Trekking Time: 4–6 hours
Distance: ~5 km
Leave the forest behind and enter heath and moorland. Enjoy spectacular views of Mount Meru and Kibo Peak as you trek across the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world.
This day is relatively short, allowing good acclimatization.
Overnight: Shira Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Elevation: 3,840m → 4,630m → 3,960m
Trekking Time: 6–8 hours
Distance: ~10 km
This is a crucial acclimatization day. Trek uphill to Lava Tower, where you have lunch at high altitude, then descend to Barranco Camp.
The dramatic landscape and descent help your body adapt to altitude.
Overnight: Barranco Camp

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Elevation: 3,960m → 4,035m
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Distance: ~5 km
Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a non-technical scramble offering breathtaking views. Continue trekking through valleys and ridges toward Karanga Camp.
This shorter day supports further acclimatization and recovery.
Overnight: Karanga Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 5: Karanga Camp – Acclimatization Day
Optional hike toward Barafu Camp
Elevation Gain: up to ~4,500m
Trekking Time: 3–4 hours
This extra acclimatization day is what makes the Machame Route 7 Days highly successful. You will hike to higher altitude and return to Karanga Camp to sleep, following the climb high, sleep low rule.
Highlight: Improved energy and reduced summit-day fatigue.

Day 6: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Elevation: 4,035m → 4,673m
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Distance: ~4 km
Trek steadily to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. Arrive early to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight climb.
Early dinner and briefing with your guide before resting.
Overnight: Barafu Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 7: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Gate
Elevation: 4,673m → 5,895m → 1,640m
Trekking Time: 12–15 hours
Begin the summit attempt around midnight. Ascend slowly to Stella Point, then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak, reaching the roof of Africa at sunrise.
After celebrating and taking photos, descend through Mweka Camp (short rest) and continue to Mweka Gate, where you receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate.
Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha.
