Day 1: Machame Gate – Machame Camp
Elevation: 1,800m → 3,000m
Trekking Time: 5–7 hours
Distance: ~11 km
Your Machame Route 6 Days adventure begins with a morning drive from Moshi or Arusha to Machame Gate. After registration, start trekking through lush rainforest, rich in birdlife and colobus monkeys.
The trail can be muddy but scenic, making the first day both exciting and rewarding.

Day 2: Machame Camp – Shira Camp
Elevation: 3,000m → 3,840m
Trekking Time: 4–6 hours
Distance: ~5 km
Ascend out of the forest into heath and moorland, with stunning views of Kibo Peak. The trail opens onto the Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world.
This shorter day allows your body to adjust to altitude.
Overnight: Shira Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 3: Shira Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
Elevation: 3,840m → 4,630m → 3,960m
Trekking Time: 6–8 hours
Distance: ~10 km
This is a critical acclimatization day. Trek uphill to Lava Tower, where you have lunch at high altitude, then descend to Barranco Camp.
The “climb high, sleep low” strategy significantly improves summit success.
Overnight: Barranco Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 4: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp
Elevation: 3,960m → 4,035m
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Distance: ~5 km
Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, a fun and non-technical scramble offering spectacular views. Continue trekking across valleys and ridges toward Karanga Camp.
This day is shorter but vital for acclimatization and rest.
Overnight: Karanga Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp
Elevation: 4,035m → 4,673m
Trekking Time: 4–5 hours
Distance: ~4 km
Trek steadily toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt. Arrive early to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the midnight ascent.
Overnight: Barafu Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Gate
Elevation: 4,673m → 5,895m → 1,640m
Trekking Time: 12–15 hours
Begin your summit attempt around midnight, climbing steadily to Stella Point, then continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
After sunrise at the summit, descend carefully through Mweka Camp (short rest) and continue to Mweka Gate, where you receive your summit certificate.
Transfer back to Moshi or Arusha.
